2024 was an adventure filled year for our family, filled with road trips ranging from Mont Tremblant and Québec at the end of 2023 to Montana and Banff during the summer to ending 2024 with a road trip from Miami, Florida back home to Connecticut.
Somehow the year 2024 is quickly coming to a close. Our family had a wonderful year with many adventures- we’ll be sharing an annual Highlights post next week on the blog (check out 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, and 2017). This week, we spent some time delving into the interwebs of our analytics for our top social media posts. We thought it would be fun to take a look back in a separate post. Here are our posts with the most engagement throughout 2024:
Our family recently spent a wonderful weekend enjoying the historic sites, kid friendly attractions, beautiful parks, delicious food, and warm hospitality of Wilmington, Delaware. Spring is the perfect time to visit Wilmington, as many of the historic homes are opening for the season and the gardens are alive with vibrant flowers and plants.
One of my favorite year end activities is posting our Year in Review. We love looking back on all of our adventures from the previous year and giving thanks for the blessing of travel. We also like looking at some of our “trends”; this year was filled with many cool spots throughout New England (heavy emphasis on Vermont and New Hampshire) and the greater Northeast (Maryland and Virginia, and our favorite: New York) and lots of cool resorts.
On a recent trip to Boston (we’ve got dozens of posts featuring popular Boston attractions), we finally had the chance to tour of Boston’s most famous venues: The Wang Theater at the Boch Center.
The Wang Theater at the Boch Center opened in 1925 as the Metropolitan Theater in the heart of downtown Boston. Over 100 artists came from Italy to complete the painting and sculpture work throughout the theater (look for the lead artist’s, Louis Amorosi, name inscribed in the corner of the ceiling). The fourteen floor building opened as a movie theater with over five thousand seats (the theater routinely oversold tickets and if a patron got up from their seat to use the restroom or buy refreshments, someone quickly took it). The theater stayed open all day for guests to patronize the art exhibits, play games, and socialize.
Named after local civic visionary Horace Bushnell, The Bushnell Performing Arts Center opened as Bushnell Memorial Hall in 1930, less than two years after the groundbreaking ceremony, and was fully restored in 2005 for its 75th anniversary. Known as a presenting center (because all sets and costumes are brought in for each show), The Bushnell is home to the 2,799 seat Mortensen Hall, the 907 seat Belding Hall, which opened in 2001, and several small halls and suites for concerts, lectures, weddings, corporate events, and performances.
