Exploring the Kohler Design Center in Kohler, Wisconsin

| |

We recently spent the Christmas holiday in Kohler, Wisconsin and had a wonderful few days exploring the beautiful village of Kohler and its many amenities, restaurants, and daily activities at the American Club. One highlight of our stay was our visit to the Kohler Design Center, in the heart of the village and next door to the Five Star Kohler Waters Spa.

The 36,000 square foot, three floor center includes a main floor filled with displays of current product lines of kitchen and bath products, a second floor with 20 artist designed vignettes of bathrooms, and a lower level History of Kohler museum. There are no sales on site but plenty of product support and professional Kohler designers who can help you design your dream kitchen or bath. Plus, many of the displays actually work so you can touch and test the latest innovations in technology and design.

Travel Tips:

  • The Design Center and Museum are free to visit 362 days a year (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter) 9am-5pm Monday through Friday and 10am-4pm Saturday and Sunday.
  • There is a small parking lot behind the center and free two hour street parking in front of the Design Center.
  • Plenty of designer restrooms located on the lower level; exhibits are handicap accessible via an elevator.
  • No dining facilities on site, but lots of options at The American Club and Shops at Wood Lake nearby- check here for more information. We loved the Horse and Plow for a casual, family friendly lunch or dinner and its walkable from the Design Center.
  • Plan on 75-90 minutes to fully explore all exhibits and the lower level museum

12 Ways to Explore the Kohler Design Center:

  1. Test the shower by the window that has several smart features and jets!
  2. Pose inside one of a dozen bathtubs on display (and learn about the first bathtubs created by Kohler in the History Museum)
  3. Choose a favorite bathroom design from 20 unique models on the second floor (and grab a product card that shared information for every product used in the vignette)

30 Ways to Enjoy the Woodloch Resort this Fall

Our visit to Woodloch is easily one of our favorite adventures of 2020. We visited in 2012 and vowed to return when the kids were older and could better enjoy all of the amenities. We finally got our chance this past week and enjoyed a beautiful fall weekend in the Poconos. Established in 1958 by the Kiesendahl family, Woodloch Pines is a resort in the northwest section of the Poconos in Pennsylvania. The 350 acre property has grown over the years to now include a lakeside resort with 160 rooms and suites, times shares and private homes, a championship 18 hole golf course, a luxury spa, and a seemingly infinite amount of ways to have fun.

A visit to Woodloch focuses on family “togetherness”- most activities encourage families to work together, laugh together, and play together. There is a genuine sense of community that the staff brings to every meal, activity, and celebration. Members of the Kiesendahl family visit with guests at every meal (look out for the crazy patterned suits!). Every staff member we encountered greeted us with a warm welcome, an invitation to join in on the fun, and a sincere desire to be inclusive. We witnessed several, multi generational families vacationing together and overheard so many conversations that started with “Last year, when we did this..” or even better, “When I was your age and we played this game….”. It is clear that many, many families return to Woodloch every year to make memories, and we’re hoping to become one of those families.

8 Family Friendly Activities in Vail, Colorado with the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa

The town of Avon, Colorado is located at the base of Beaver Creek Village and Beaker Creek Ski Resort, 2.3 miles up the hill. Vail Village and adjacent Lionshead Village are located 10 miles east of Avon, less than 15 aways from Avon. Both Beaker Creek and Vail are known for their world class skiing in the winter and plenty of outdoor fun throughout the entire year.

After researching places to stop between our visits to Utah and South Dakota (we’re on a massive National Parks tour this summer), we decided to spend a few days exploring the beauty of the Vail area. When crowd sourcing places to stay the overwhelming choice of both friends and acquaintances was the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa, at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain in Avon.

We’re coming up on our third visit to the “mice” in Orlando this summer and our children are so excited! We were definitely bitten by the Disney World “bug” and keep coming back for more magic. It truly is (one of) the happiest places on Earth, no matter how old you are.

Regular readers and followers know I am a planner. I start planning a trip to Disney World even earlier than I plan most other trips. Lately, I have found myself sharing some advice with friends who are going to Disney for the first time. I thought I would share my tips:

13 Places to Hike in Connecticut for National Take a Hike Day

This coming Friday, November 17th is National Take a Hike Day and while we wouldn’t label ourselves big hikers- we use the term “hiker” loosely- we have come to love getting exercise while enjoying the beauty of nature and fresh air. During the pandemic, and since then, we have explored many of Connecticut’s state parks; you can read about the many reasons we love state parks in this post.  Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection oversees 142 state parks, forests, and beaches sprawled across a quarter million acres. There are SO many hiking trails and paths to explore, but over the years, we have returned to a few areas that are super kid friendly.

10 Ways to Explore the Cape Cod National Seashore

The Cape Cod National Seashore is one of the most popular spots on the Cape, attracting 4.5 million visitors each year. The 43,608 acres of the Seashore are spread out across six towns and on both the Cape Cod Bay and Atlantic Ocean sides of Cape Cod, the “flexed arm” of Massachusetts. Overseen by the National Park Service and established in 1961, the National Seashore encompasses 40 miles of beach, 12 self guided hiking trails, six public beaches (Coast Guard, Nauset Light, Marconi, Head of the Meadow, Race Point, and Herring Cove), 6 lighthouses, three biking trails, fishing and hunting, and two Visitor Centers (Province Lands  and Salt Marsh).

The Visitor Centers are free to visit, as are many ranger led programs and activities, and showcase the history of the Cape, beginning with the English pilgrims who arrived at Provincetown on the Mayflower in November of 1620 . Visiting National Park Service sites (there are over 400!) are one of our favorite activities in a new spot and we really enjoyed our recent to the area. Most people explore the Seashore during peak summer months, but there is still plenty to see and do during the quieter winter months.
