Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, PA

| | |

The Please Touch Museum is one of the most popular spots for kids of all ages in Philadelphia- up to 5,000 people visit each (busy) day! The museum is located inside Memorial Hall, site of the Art Gallery for the 1876 Centennial Exhibition celebrating America’s 100th birthday. There is over 60,000 square feet of exhibits open to the public and various classrooms and meeting spaces. The museum is best for ages ten and under, but there are many exhibits even older children will enjoy. The best part? Visitors are encouraged to “touch” everything!

Traveling With Kids:

  • There is a parking lot next to the museum ($12 for non members) but free street parking is available if you get there early in the day.

  • The entire museum is handicap accessible with ramps and an elevator. You can bring a stroller but I doubt any child will want to stay in the stroller for very long!

  • The museum participates in the Association of Children’s Museums reciprocity program. If you belong to your local children’s museum, you can receive reduced admissions. The museum is also part of the Philadelphia CityPASS. There are also other ways to save on admissions. Check out a list here.

  • Restrooms are located on both floors and there is a coat check on the main floor, to the right of the admissions desk.

  • There is a Cafe serving hot and cold lunches and snacks and plenty of drink options. Visitors are allowed to bring in food and there are tables and chairs in the main lobby as well as the cafe. Visitors may leave and return same day.

  • A gift shop is located to the left of the admissions desk (visitors pass it on the way out of the museum).

  • Check for daily programs here and check online for hours.

  • Plan to spend 2-3 hours to fully explore the museum, although some children may stay in just one exhibit for 2-3 hours!

30 Ways to Enjoy the Woodloch Resort this Fall

Our visit to Woodloch is easily one of our favorite adventures of 2020. We visited in 2012 and vowed to return when the kids were older and could better enjoy all of the amenities. We finally got our chance this past week and enjoyed a beautiful fall weekend in the Poconos. Established in 1958 by the Kiesendahl family, Woodloch Pines is a resort in the northwest section of the Poconos in Pennsylvania. The 350 acre property has grown over the years to now include a lakeside resort with 160 rooms and suites, times shares and private homes, a championship 18 hole golf course, a luxury spa, and a seemingly infinite amount of ways to have fun.

A visit to Woodloch focuses on family “togetherness”- most activities encourage families to work together, laugh together, and play together. There is a genuine sense of community that the staff brings to every meal, activity, and celebration. Members of the Kiesendahl family visit with guests at every meal (look out for the crazy patterned suits!). Every staff member we encountered greeted us with a warm welcome, an invitation to join in on the fun, and a sincere desire to be inclusive. We witnessed several, multi generational families vacationing together and overheard so many conversations that started with “Last year, when we did this..” or even better, “When I was your age and we played this game….”. It is clear that many, many families return to Woodloch every year to make memories, and we’re hoping to become one of those families.

30 Places We Love in Connecticut

Connecticut may be the third smallest state (5,543 square miles), but what it lacks in size, it makes up with so many fun places to explore and so many family friendly activities. I have lived in Fairfield County in Connecticut for 20 years. And over the past 20 years my family has explored most of the Nutmeg State, from Greenwich to Mystic and Fairfield to Torrington. Since our daughter was born over a decade ago, we’ve found just about every spot to be kid friendly. While we plan on adding to this list each month, and will share annual updates, this is our first round of places we love in Connecticut.

10 Things to Do at the Green Cay Nature Center in Boynton Beach, Florida

On a recent visit to Delray Beach, Florida to visit family, we explored the nearby Green Cay Nature Center in Boynton Beach and ended up spending the better part of a morning enjoying the beautiful wetlands and exhibits.

Originally farmland, the 100 acres property was sold by the farmers at a significantly reduced rate to the County with the promise the lands would be made into a wetland. It took two years, but in 2004 the property opened to the public and thousands of birds and wildlife began calling it home.  Green Cay is part of the Palm Beach County Nature Center system, which includes six additional centers throughout the area- check out the full list and details here.

Holiday Gift Guide 2020: “The Gift of Time”

“The gift of time” is one of my favorite phrases; I truly believe that the one of the greatest gifts we can give someone is to spend time with them. This past year, we may have spent more time at home than on the road “adventuring”, but even at home, the gift of time was well spent reconnecting in ways that didn’t involve screens! This year, for our annual gift guide (check out our previous Holiday Gifts Guides from 2019, 2018, 2017), we are using the theme of the gift of time for the focus of our gift giving family and friends.
