Free Things to Do at Disney Springs

|

This week marks Mickey Mouse’s 90th Birthday- Happy Birthday to Mickey! As a child, I enjoyed visiting “the Florida mice” as we referred to them, but now, as an adult, I think I enjoy, and definitely appreciate, visiting Disney World more with my husband and children. We were just there this past summer and I am already scheming about ways to visit again in 2019!

We spent an entire afternoon at Disney Springs, a 120+ acre complex that encompasses over 60 options for dining (from snacks to quick service to full service restaurants), dozens of retail stores (including the world’s largest Disney merchandise store, World of Disney), and plenty of places to explore. The complex was completely remodeled and reopened in 2016 and is divided into four sections: The Landing, Marketplace, West Side, and Town Center.

Disney Springs does not require a ticket or entrance fee. There are several parking garages throughout the complex, but I recommend parking in the Lime Garage because it will put you in the middle of the complex and gives you easy access to many sections. While it’s fun just to walk through the four sections of Disney Springs, there are also dozens of opportunities to do things for free.

Two of our favorite restaurants: The Boathouse and Raglan Road, where you can take Irish step dancing lessons while you wait for your food.

My Top 10 List of Free Things at Disney Springs:

1. Ride a ferryboat around the lake. It makes stops at the Port Orleans and Old Key West resorts, the Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, and the Marketplace, West Side, and The Landing sections of Disney Springs.

2. Taste samples at Goofy’s Candy Company and honey from Savannah Bee Company honey store.

3. Get a complimentary necklace from Luxury of Time. Read a sales associate the tag line listed at the bottom of the Disney Springs map and they’ll gift you a beautiful keepsake necklace- no purchase necessary!

4. Have your picture taken at a photo booth inside Uniqlo and then immediately print the photos.

Would you like to save this?

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later.

5. Create a lego race car and race it at the Lego Store.

6. Get splashed by Stitch outside the World of Disney Store and cool off in the water features located throughout the complex. (I’d throw a change of clothes in the stroller for toddlers!)

7. Have a water fight by cranking the spinning water guns.

8. Look for Hidden Mickeys throughout the complex. Download the app here and see how many you can find.

9. See a show at one of the pavilions, like the Marketplace Stage. There are over two dozens performances every day.

10. Check out the daily calendar for special seasonal events- 365 days a year!

30 Ways to Have Fun at Crystal Springs Resort in New Jersey

Crystal Springs Resort, the largest golf resort in the Northeast, offers so much more than “just” golf for families, couples, and friends who vacation together. Located in the northern part of New Jersey, an hour from Manhattan, the resort includes two resorts, situated three miles apart: Grand Cascades Lodge and Minerals. The resorts feature six golf courses (4 courses with 18 holes and 2 courses with 9 holes); 10 restaurants, bistros, and grills; three pool complexes; and hundreds (literally!) of ways to have fun. I spent a wonderful weekend at Grand Cascades Lodge two years ago with college friends and have wanted to bring my family back ever since that visit.

    Coast2Coast’s 3rd Birthday!

The first week in June is our little blog’s 3rd birthday! We’ve come a long way from our first post on the opening of the Dr. Seuss Museum in Springfield, Massachusetts. Since that adventure, we estimate we’ve explored about 20 new-to-us cities, about 15 states, and driven over 30,000 miles adventuring (that’s NOT counting our regular schedule mileage!)

We’re getting ready to hit the road again soon. We postponed a pretty amazing, pretty epic, almost cross country trip that we had been planning for 2+ years. I’ve been moping about it for a couple of months now, but believe we’ll make our way there next summer. I’m hoping we can reschedule some shorter trips that were planned for the spring, including exploring the Berkshires in Massachusetts parts of Vermont, and Scranton, Pennsylvania. I’m also hoping to revisit some of our favorite New England resorts and share in depth guides for them.

This week, I’m recapping some of my most popular posts and sharing some stats for the blog. If you haven’t had a chance to read them, here’s a great index:

15 Interactive Ways to Explore the Museum of Broadway in New York City:

We were thrilled to be invited to the brand new Museum of Broadway in New York City this past weekend. The 26,000 square foot, three floor museum opened in November 2022 and is already receiving a lot of positive buzz.

The Museum of Broadway is designed to take guests through a chronological history of “the Great White Way” (the nickname for Broadway because of the bright lights of the theater marques), with three major segments: The Map Room, The Timeline, and The Making of a Broadway Show. All three parts include tons of original costumes, scripts, daily itineraries, mock ups of sets, film footage of interviews with casts and crews, awards, and highlights of popular shows from each era. Guests begin by walking up three flights of “backstage stairs” to the dressing room area and following a path through three floors of exhibits.

  • Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford, Connecticut

Sometimes, we travel out of state so much, my family forgets to visit all of the great spots right in our own “backyard.” With that in mind, we decided to check out a popular spot in Hartford: The Mark Twain House & Museum. For our tips on visiting the nearby Connecticut Science Center, read our post here.

American author Samuel Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, moved around the country, but spent 17 years raising his three daughters in the Nook Farm neighborhood of Hartford. The late 1800s was a time when Hartford was a thriving industrial city and Nook Farm was one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the city. Fellow author Harriet Beecher Stowe lived next door (and penned Uncle Tom’s Cabin 20 years before Twain came to town). During the family’s time in Hartford, Clemens wrote dozens of his most popular novels and stories including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court.

8 Family Friendly Activities in Vail, Colorado with the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa

The town of Avon, Colorado is located at the base of Beaver Creek Village and Beaker Creek Ski Resort, 2.3 miles up the hill. Vail Village and adjacent Lionshead Village are located 10 miles east of Avon, less than 15 aways from Avon. Both Beaker Creek and Vail are known for their world class skiing in the winter and plenty of outdoor fun throughout the entire year.

After researching places to stop between our visits to Utah and South Dakota (we’re on a massive National Parks tour this summer), we decided to spend a few days exploring the beauty of the Vail area. When crowd sourcing places to stay the overwhelming choice of both friends and acquaintances was the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa, at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain in Avon.
