10 Marriott Hotels We Love

| |

Our family has been fans of Marriott hotel properties for over 20 years. At first, we started staying at Marriott hotels because of their location; virtually every trip we planned, there was a Marriott hotel nearby (and that still holds true today). Over time, we started to notice the numerous amenities, cleanliness of the rooms, and the friendliness of the staff no matter the property we visited. We joined the Marriott Bonvoy rewards program (in its first iteration) years ago and have accrued many bonuses, perks, and free hotel stays over the years.

While we have stayed at literally dozens of Marriott properties from Las Vegas, Nevada to Toronto, Ontario, we typically choose the Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites, Renaissance, and traditional Marriott brand of hotels. Residence Inns are ideal for families as they offer more space, a full kitchen with a full size refrigerator, full morning breakfast and evening snacks during the week, and pool and laundry facilities on site. Renaissance and traditional Marriott brand hotels usually have full service restaurants, concierge lounges, and other amenities desirable for the business class.

This week, we’re sharing 10 Marriott properties throughout America we especially enjoyed and some of our favorite nearby attractions. And check back in the future, we’re hoping to add additional locations.

10 Marriott Hotels We Love:

Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle, New Hampshire is located less than five minutes from popular Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The resort offers is a full service spa and fitness center, full service restaurant, indoor and outdoor pools, and tennis courts.
We love the location because the resort overlooks the the Wentworth Marina (guests can reserve a variety of tours and cruises) and is quiet and tucked away from the bustle of downtown Portsmouth, but is an easy five minute drive to Portsmouth (and you’ll pass The Ice House, which has great ice cream, on your drive).
Our favorite parts of the property include the outdoor pool complex, located across the driveway from the main resort with an “Adult Only” lounge area and food and beverage service throughout the day; The Latitudes Restaurant, which overlooks the marina and has indoor and outdoor dining;  and beautifully appointed rooms with heated bathroom floors and views of the harbor.
If you go, check out our City Guides to nearby Salem, Gloucester, and Boston, Massachusetts.

Boston Marriott Long Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts is located in the heart of the downtown waterfront area. The hotel is shaped like a ship with a bow, stern, and deck design and includes over 400 rooms and suites across seven floors.

Renaissance Boca Raton Hotel in Boca Raton, Florida has the relaxing, calming vibe of a tropical oasis. We have family who live nearby and when our whole family descends on the area, members of the family will quickly “volunteer” to stay at this hotel because we like it so much. The hotel includes almost 200 rooms, the full service Umbria restaurant and outdoor Oasis Cafe.
We love the location because it is one street off the intersection of North and South Military Trail and Glades Road (Route 808), a quick on and off to Interstate 95, and nearby tons of shopping and dining options.

There is a waterfall cascading into the pool, a private hot tub area, tons of lounge spaces, an outdoor cafe with cabana service, and even life size lawn games. The hotel also offers afternoon snacks in the lobby and a free shuttle to several amenities around town.

World Golf Village Renaissance St Augustine Resort in St Augustine, Florida is located inside the World Golf Village, which includes the World Golf Hall of Fame, PGA Golf Academy, several golf courses, and the IMAX Theater. Inside the hotel there are over 300 rooms, Villagio Grill and Bar at Villagio, spa and fitness center, and daily activities for kids.
We love the location because the hotel is tucked away from the busier downtown areas but a pretty and easy drive to several historical attractions in St. Augustine, the oldest city in America.

The hotel has 350 rooms in several configurations, and the indoor dining room is quite large with several stations for morning breakfast options. We love the location because it is less than 5 minutes from the entrance to Arches National Park and less than 5 minutes from the downtown Moab area. It is also the closest hotel to Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse State Park.

    My New 2018 Chevy Equinox

Over ten years. Almost 193,00 miles. All around the country. My 2007 Chevy Equinox served me well. I loved that car. I regret not taking more pictures with it at stops along our road trips. That car saw a lot of the American landscape.  I wouldn’t go so far as to say the car was a member of the family, but it did protect and serve my family for a long time.

So, after lots of saving, planning for our largest (to date!) summer road trip for 2018, and seeing great incentives from Chevrolet, my husband and I decided to purchase a new car.

    Having a Back Up Plan

If you are one of my regular followers, you know how important I think having an alternate plan is; I hate surprises and always try to anticipate problems ahead of traveling with my family. As much as I try and plan when I pack a suitcase and pack the car for a trip, undoubtedly something unexpected will come up.

While there will always be some things out of my control, and some things I just won’t anticipate, knowing how I will deal with the unexpected when it inevitably comes up takes some of the pressure off of me. Here are my top tips:

Five U.S. Travel Books Kids Will Love

Our children have always enjoyed reading and will spend hours a day reading, no matter where we are. Fortunately, they can read in the car and we often make a big Barnes and Noble order before a road trip. And while they mainly stick to fictional series, they do like to take a break for a puzzle or a game, or ask us trivia.

This week, we’re sharing some of our favorite travel books. You’ll notice a common theme of the National Park system, one of our favorite destinations on any road trip. (You can read about some of the dozens of posts featuring National Parks and National Park service sites here). And be sure to check out the special giveaway at the bottom of the post.

    Our Summer 2020 Recap

Summer 2020 wasn’t exactly what we were expecting, and it definitely wasn’t what we had been planning for a LONG time. June marked a milestone birthday for me and we had planned on celebrating with a big trip to places that have been on our bucket list for many year. Luckily, we rescheduled this trip for next summer- so cross your fingers and stay tuned!

Each summer, we make individual “Bucket Lists” of things we want to do. Some common goals that the four of us shared are part of the highlights below. We’re grateful we were able to accomplish so much and fully recognize how fortunate we are. Here are the highlights:

Once the pandemic hit, we knew we’d have to shift our perspective and our travel plans. Our major goals for any trip include: staying safe and healthy; doing our best to keep others safe and healthy; respecting local and state guidelines and regulations; learning new things; having fun.

    Skytop Lodge in the Poconos

Traveling during a still present pandemic: This summer we have been traveling to places that have low COVID numbers and offer opportunities for our family to explore the outdoors while keeping our distant from other groups. We went to the Poconos when our children were very little and loved the area (it’s also a super easy drive from our home). Skytop was near the top of my list to visit this summer because it offers so many activities included in our stay, so much areas to explore, and plenty of dining options right on site. We never left the resort and still had so many things we didn’t have an opportunity to do that we’ll “need” to return soon.

Skytop Lodge, located in the Poconos of Pennsylvania, will transport guests to a bygone area. The main lodge, open since 1928, has grown over the past almost-century to a 55,000 acre resort that includes an 18 hole golf course, 2 pools, lakeside beach, miles of hiking trails, 5 restaurants, and dozens of daily activities for families of all ages. The grounds are stunning: manicured grass, lush gardens, and so many places to sit and relax (rocking on the back porch is a must!). There are flowers arrangements on every table in every space and every single one is fresh! Garden lovers should visit the gorgeous Flower Shop on the lower level of the main lodge.

The Auberge Saint Antoine Hotel in Québec

On a recent trip to Québec, we had the wonderful opportunity to stay at the Auberge Saint-Antoine, a Relais and Château property (one of only 450 hotels in the world with the distinct honor). Located in the heart of Old Port of Québec, the Saint Antoine is steeped in history and offers many wonderful amenities. The site was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, and first opened in 1992 in a 1822 stone warehouse (which is now Chez Muffy’s restaurant). The hotel quickly expanded and moved into the adjacent Hunt House, and then expanded again in 2003 to include 95 uniquely designed rooms and suites, a business center, a fitness center, receptions rooms, an auditorium, and two restaurants.  The Saint Antoine is one of the best hotel we have ever had the privilege of visiting and we highly recommend staying here when exploring Old Québec (and yes, the hotel is SUPER kid friendly!)

  1. When I saw your post on Facebook, I clicked on it because the hotel looked familiar and it turns out that I have stayed there before. Wentworth by the Sea was fantastic. I LOVED the room I stayed in and it was one of the most unforgettable experiences. We went in the summertime and the vibe was so relaxed and nice. I’m not sure when the next time I’ll visit New Hampshire again (I currently live in HK) but I hope I can in a few years!
