Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History in New Haven, CT

New Haven, Connecticut is practically in my backyard. My husband and I frequently head to New Haven for date night with friends; there are so many great restaurants. I’ve also taken some professional development courses as a teacher at Yale University and have attended performing arts shows and concerts at some of the local theaters. However, we don’t bring the kids to New Haven as often as we should. I keep a running list of places to visit, and on a recent free morning, we decided to explore the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History.

10 Must Do Activities at the Disney’s Contemporary Resort

There are so many options when it comes to hotel accommodations at Walt Disney World- everything from camping at Fort Wilderness to staying inside Cinderella’s Castle. We’ve been to Disney World three times, and each time we’ve stayed at a different level resort. On our second trip a few years ago, we splurged and stayed at the Contemporary Resort, considered a deluxe resort because of its amenities and proximity to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot Parks. While we were there, we found so many fun things to do. Here are our top ten favorite things:

Year in Review: Highlights of 2018

2018 was an exciting, adventure filled year for my family. We started a bit early by purchasing a new 2018 Chevy Equinox, and to date-exactly 54 weeks later- we have over 26,000 miles on the odometer. We’ve been as far west as Texas, as far south as Florida, and as far north as Maine. We’re explored over a dozen states, over twenty National Parks Service locations, over two dozen museums, two baseball parks (that brings our total count to 24 out of the 30 MLB parks), and created countless memories.

Free Things to Do at Disney Springs

This week marks Mickey Mouse’s 90th Birthday- Happy Birthday to Mickey! As a child, I enjoyed visiting “the Florida mice” as we referred to them, but now, as an adult, I think I enjoy, and definitely appreciate, visiting Disney World more with my husband and children. We were just there this past summer and I am already scheming about ways to visit again in 2019!

We spent an entire afternoon at Disney Springs, a 120+ acre complex that encompasses over 60 options for dining (from snacks to quick service to full service restaurants), dozens of retail stores (including the world’s largest Disney merchandise store, World of Disney), and plenty of places to explore. The complex was completely remodeled and reopened in 2016 and is divided into four sections: The Landing, Marketplace, West Side, and Town Center.

Sports Halls of Fame

Whether you are a novice player and want to learn the rules and history of a sport, or a hard core enthusiast who wants to challenge their sports trivia knowledge and relive legendary moments, Sports Halls of Fame are a great place to visit with children. There’s a Hall of Fame for just about every sport and they are very family friendly. Here are some highlights from Halls of Fame (HoFs) my family has visited over the years:

10 Reasons Why I Love the National Parks Service System

Seven years ago I planned my first major road trip. My children were toddlers and we were planning on traveling almost cross country to visit good friends who were temporarily relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sharing my itinerary with my Uncle Bob, he asked if I planned on visiting any National Parks. I knew of the National Park Service system, but didn’t know much information about the various locations. Uncle Bob pulled out a worn, tattered, small blue spiral book and about an hour went by before I spoke again. (Full disclosure: Uncle Bob is a good storyteller and he does have a TON of travel experience.) His National Parks Passport book was filled with stamps dating back to the early 1970s. It was the perfect memento of his travels and I knew I had to start my own passport book.

Since 2012, I have collected dozens of passport stamps from various stops in the National Park Service system. There are over 400 locations in the United States and American owned islands. These locations include parks, monuments, battlefields, historic sites, lakeshores, seashores, recreation areas, scenic rivers and trails, and even the White House. With every stop, I became a bigger and bigger fan of the National Parks system. Here are my top 10 reasons why:
