10 Ways to Explore the Green Cay Nature Center in Boynton Beach, Florida

On a recent visit to Delray Beach, Florida to visit family, we explored the nearby Green Cay Nature Center in Boynton Beach and ended up spending the better part of a morning enjoying the beautiful wetlands and exhibits.

Originally farmland, the 100 acres property was sold by the farmers at a significantly reduced rate to the County with the promise the lands would be made into a wetland. It took two years, but in 2004 the property opened to the public and thousands of birds and wildlife began calling it home.  Green Cay is part of the Palm Beach County Nature Center system, which includes six additional centers throughout the area- check out the full list and details here.

10 Ways to Explore the South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center in the Hamptons

One of the highlights of our recent trip to the Hamptons was the South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center in Bridgehampton, New York. What started as a small space to protect the Eastern Tiger Salamanders, now an endangered and protected species that were found to have inhabited the area, the center opened in 2006 on three acres of property on the 1100 acre Long Pond Greenbelt Preserve. While most of the 1100 acres is protected, untouched land, the museum and nature center also include three ponds (one of which is a “teaching pond”), and walking trails.

Stamford Museum & Nature Center in Connecticut

The Stamford Museum and Nature Center in Stamford, Connecticut is practically in my backyard and yet it’s taken me almost 12 years to visit! We’ve felt most comfortable visiting outdoor locations due to the COVID 19 pandemics, so this seemed like the perfect time to explore the farm and nature center.

There are over 80 acres of gardens, trails, and buildings spread out across the complex. Visitors are welcome to visit with animals, smell the fruits and vegetables in the garden, check out the playground, explore the mansion, and hike and walk some of the trails.

Playing “I Spy” at The Bushnell Performing Arts Center in Hartford, Connecticut

Named after local civic visionary Horace Bushnell, The Bushnell Performing Arts Center opened as Bushnell Memorial Hall in 1930, less than two years after the groundbreaking ceremony,  and was fully restored in 2005 for its 75th anniversary. Known as a presenting center (because all sets and costumes are brought in for each show), The Bushnell is home to the 2,799 seat Mortensen Hall, the 907 seat Belding Hall, which opened in 2001, and several small halls and suites for concerts, lectures, weddings, corporate events, and performances.

10 Ways to Have Fun at The Wild Center in New York

Located in Tupper Lake in northern New York, The Wild Center is part natural history museum, part aquarium, part series of nature trails, part massive outdoor playground, and 100% FUN! We first read about The Wild Center when Wild Walk opened in 2015 and it has been on our bucket list until last week! During our visit to the Lake Placid area (The Wild Center is about 30 miles west), we enjoyed a busy morning on campus and wished we could have stayed all day!
